Everest Gokyo Lake Trek is the great alternative to the classical Everest Base Camp Trek. This trek follows the spectacular trekking route of Khumbu region offering beautiful takes, incredible mountain vistas, ethnic Sherpa culture and scenic natural beauty beyond your imagination. This trek is ideal for those seeking for beaten-off trekking experience in Everest region and wish fewer nights spend at higher altitude.
Gokyo Trek Itinerary is carefully designed to allow travelers for proper acclimatization and explore the region in best possible way in short time. Walk for two days to NamcheFrom Lukla and halt for rest and acclimatization day.
The trail branches off from the main trekking route of EBC and follows the trail to sleepy village of Phortse Tenga, Dole and Macchermo. Trek along the snout of the
Ngozumpa Glacier – the largest glacier in the world beneath the soaring peaks. Hike up to its moraine past two lakes to the ancient hamlet of Gokyo- the summer grazing village. The village overlooks the blue-green Dudh Pokhari (Lake).
The village is surrounded by soaring peaks that servers the best view of Cho Oyu to the north. A stiff climb up to Gokyo Ri rewards you with the towering 8,000m peaks set amongst gigantic peaks. The way back journey takes 3 days trek: staying at different villages.
Gokyo Lake Trek difficulty is rated as “Moderate Plus” trek much more similar to the difficulty of EBC trek. The biggest problem arises when trekkers run to complete the trek fast. You must halt for at least 2 days in Namche Bazaar and then gain 300m height every day. Local called Gokyo Valley – “The Valley of Death” because often trekkers speed up the pace ignoring the AMS rules and pays the ultimate price.
You can check Gokyo Lake Trek Map for more information about the trekking route. Also consider reading Gokyo Lake Trek blog posted in travel blog to learn its facts, highlights, difficulties, best season, success rate and more.
